More About Dan

Who I Am

I’m Dan Griffin — and for the past 25+ years, I’ve helped men, fathers, and professionals find the tools and skills they need to find success in their personal as well as their professional lives.

I’m an author, speaker, and consultant — but more than that, I’m a man in long-term recovery, a husband of 21 years, and a father. I’ve lived the work I teach. And I bring that lived experience into every training, conversation, and program I lead.

Real conversations. Real experience. Real Solutions.
No BS.

How I Got Here

Like a lot of men, I spent years performing, pretending, and doing what I thought I was “supposed” to do in order to be a real man. I got sober at 21, and that’s when everything started to change. But sometimes quickly, and sometimes slowly. I am still a work in progress. I’ve devoted my life to helping men break free from the outdated messages they’ve been handed — the ones I call The Man Rules.

I know the cost of living by those rules. I’ve lived it. And I’ve also seen what’s possible when we finally let them go.

My Work

Over the past two decades, I’ve written or contributed to eight publications, six of which are centered on men, trauma, relationships, and recovery. Each one is a piece of a larger mission: helping men find the freedom, connection, and integrity we were never taught to value or even know how to implement them in our lives – personal or professional.

Key works include:

  • A Man’s Way Through the Twelve Steps
  • A Man’s Way Through Relationships
  • Helping Men Recover: A Program for Treating Addiction (co-author)
  • Amazing Dads (co-author)
  • Healing Men’s Pain (co-author)
  • What Men Would Tell You… If They Weren’t Too Busy Watching TV with Dr. Allen Berger
  • Amazing Moms (co-author)
  • Healing Women’s Pain (co-author)

I also created The Man Rules® Podcast — a space for honest, unscripted conversations about masculinity, emotional pain, and personal growth. While the podcast was suspended all of the interviews (over 100) can be found on various platforms.

My work is used by treatment centers, correctional programs, and clinical teams across the country. I’ve trained thousands of professionals and supported countless men and fathers in rebuilding lives grounded in presence, purpose, and relationship.

At the heart of everything I do is this:

Open men’s hearts, heal their pain, and change the world.

When I’m Not Working

I play guitar and sing in a band called The Rusties which is honestly one of the greatest joys of my life. I am very active on the “back nine” of my life! I play volleyball, pickleball, and tennis and get to the gym on a regular basis. I laugh hard with my daughter. I love quiet moments that remind me why all this matters. Spending time getting grounded at recovery meetings throughout the week. Meditation and deep connections with the world around me and good friends have saved my life.

Connection and joy aren’t just outcomes of this work — they’re the reason I do it. And yet, it’s all very imperfect.
